1953 Topps Willie Mays
One of the prettiest cards Topps ever made — Willie in his young Giants prime.
The '53 set is all hand-painted portraits, and Mays is the crown jewel. He'd spent most of that summer in the Army, so the card feels like a snapshot of a comet about to take off. Even well-loved copies carry a warmth you just don't get from modern cardboard.

The Hammer's very first card, back when he was a skinny kid nobody had figured out yet.
Long before 755 and Cooperstown, there was a 20-year-old Aaron smiling out from 1954 Topps. It's one of the cornerstone rookie cards of the whole hobby — sharp copies keep climbing, but honest, well-worn examples still turn up at prices that'll surprise you.

The wildest design Topps ever printed — grab a lot and start chasing the set.
The 1972 set is 787 cards of psychedelic, marquee-lettered glory, and half the fun is running down the commons a handful at a time. Bulk starter lots are a cheap, addictive way in, and you'll know the checklist by heart before you're even halfway home.
